Roggebaai
PROJECT INFORMATION
Client: Transnet Type: Design Proposal
Completion: Ongoing
Address: Cape Town Foreshore / Waterfront
The Roggebaai Canal Tourism Precinct (RCTP), is a mixed use development initiated by Transnet on a basket of land situated between the CTICC and the V&A Waterfront in Cape Town. The Roggebaai Canal, which runs through this precinct, was completed in 2005 and is a key connection linking the Foreshore, the International Convention Centre and the premier tourist destination, the V&A Waterfront, a commercial and retail hub.
DesignSpaceAfrica has been involved with the project since 2003, when Propnet, a division of Transnet, appointed a Team to facilitate and coordinate the development of a mixed use precinct along the adjacent working harbour context. This unique waterfront development includes a mix of Hotel, Offices, Restaurants, Residential Apartments and public squares along the largely pedestrianized canal environment, where a Blue Train station is also envisaged.
The team developed the planning, design and architectural guidelines to maximise the potential of this prime real estate opportunity, as envisaged by our client, Transnet, but also towards the goal of creating a diverse urban precinct which would fulfill the definition of an ‘accessible, vibrant World Class City’, promoting the Urban Design objectives and characteristics of a walkable; liveable densified and multi-cultural inner city.
